TITRETS SO2 TEST KIT SKU: TI-K Price: $17.85 |
A very convenient way to measure free sulfite content in dry white wine that has not been put through a malolactic fermentation, and that contains no ascorbic acid. Titrets can be used on red wines, but it is more difficult to use. One package of titrets contain 10 glass ampules; the optional titrettor can make using the ampules more convenient.
Our sulphite testing kits, measures the amount of free sulfur dioxide in a solution. Depending on the pH of the wine being tested, the free sulfur dioxide level should be between 35 and 50 parts per million (PPM). At 100 to 200 PPM sulphites start to be noticeable as a sulfury odor that can almost catch in the back of your throat. Some people, women in particular, have a better sense of smell and can detect it in slightly lower amounts.
Testing is important because you should know the level of sulphites before you bottle your wine Too little and the wine might spoil; too much and the taste will be bad. However, if you are happy with your finished wine when adding a half teaspoon of sulphite per 5 gallons of wine, there may decide not to test. However, if you want to take greater control over the quality of your home made wine, this kit is an effective and easy start.
The proper amount of SO2 is important to over-all quality of your finished wines. When SO2 is at the proper levels, your wine will age and store well, and will not oxidize prematurely. Too little sulfur will produce an undesirable effect; too much will be tasted in the finished wine. Our test kit allows you to accurately measure the SO2 level in your wines.
NOTE: Test SO2 before adding Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C) or excess tannins because the presence of either of these additive may produce unreliable results in the wines.
